J M This 6 part HBO limited series is HEAVY stuff - with a bold capital H. If you prefer a little levity with your drama, you might want to look elsewhere. This has mental illness, child abuse, alcoholism, death, car accidents and falling off of ladders. So, if you're in it for the long haul, this is a rewarding and involving drama that deserves to be seen if for no other reason than Ruffalo's remarkable double performance. It's nearly incompressible for the mind to comprehend that the same actor is playing both roles. The basic plot revolves around Dominick Birdsey and his relationship with his mentally challenged twin brother Thomas. Throughout the six episodes, though, we go back to their childhoods, the young life of their grandfather, and Dominick's life with his now-ex wife. The best scenes in the limited series revolve around Dominick's attempts to release Thomas from a mental institution. The acting in these scenes is wonderful, including a successful dramatic turn by O'Donnell. Not everything works quite as well - the scenes with the grandfather could have been condensed, and there is a very awkward performance by Juliette Lewis that thankfully only pops up sporadically in a couple episodes. Ruffalo won an award for his performance at the 2021 Golden Globes. I Know This Much Is True was shot on location in Poughkeepsie, Wappingers Falls, and Kingston, New York, USA. Filming also took place at Umbra of Newburgh in New York.
I Know This Much Is True is an American drama television miniseries directed and co-written by Derek Cianfrance, based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Wally Lamb. The series stars Mark Ruffalo in a dual role as twin brothers Dominick and Thomas Birdsey.
Although Lamb writes about the novel's subject matter incredibly convincingly, I Know This Much Is True isn't based on his own experiences, although a few elements from his life made their way into his storytelling. For instance, like the twin brothers, Lamb also comes from a Catholic Italian family.

For six months last year, from April to October, "I Know This Much is True" filmed in the mid-Hudson Valley, predominantly in Dutchess County. The series stars Ruffalo as twin brothers, features Rosie O'Donnell, Juliette Lewis, Kathryn Hahn and Ulster County Oscar winner Melissa Leo, and is set in Connecticut.

You is very, very good. It's been called "bonkers" but you can take that in a good way. It is smart enough to let us know that to sympathise with Joe is to be complicit in his crimes.
True Things is not a bad film, exactly. The actors play it like they mean it, while the drama itself carries a natural dry charge. But it's unambitious, sometimes clunky and doesn't wrong-foot us once.
I love this drama! Not too melodramatic romance. A very practical drama where characters are very much real and no dumb clichès. Everyone has their own struggles in life and according to that they react, which means the bad is not always bad and the good one is not always good.
