Retired Conrail watchman was bowler, WWII veteran
James G. Cook, 8197 Erie St., Masury, formerly of Burghill, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday (12-11-00) in O'Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury, following a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Mr. Cook was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Aleppo Township, Greene County, Pa., to James T. and Lula E. Lohr Cook.
He retired in 1983 after 32 years as a crossing watchman at Conrail Railroad; and was previously employed by Shenango Furnace, Sharpsville.
An Army veteran, Mr. Cook served in the 25th Field Artillery Division in France, Belgium and Germany during World War II.
He belonged to bowling leagues in Greenville and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are: a daughter, Jan Marie Moyer, Transfer; a son, Kenneth L., Masury; two sisters, Wanda Whipkey, Hallbrook, Pa.; and Wilma Morris, Washington, Pa.; a brother, Harold, Waynesburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald LaVern, who died in 1964; two sisters; and four brothers.

Mr. Curtis was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Pittsburgh to George J. and Anna Rinehart Curtis.
He attended Pittsburgh schools and retired in 1980 after 43 years as an electrician for H.J. Heinz, Pittsburgh.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Curtis served during World War II and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7599, Reynolds.
He belonged to Fleet Reserve Association Branch 258, Erie.
A Catholic, Mr. Curtis was an avid fisherman and boater.
Surviving are: a longtime companion, Jean Macik, and a sister, Anna Seabocker, both Pittsburgh.

Grace Evans, Salt Lake City, formerly of New Bedford, died at 10:25 a.m. Dec. 5 (12-5-00) in Millcreek Nursing Center, Salt Lake, following an extended illness. She was 71.
Ms. Evans was born March 19, 1929, in Youngstown to Norris McClintic and Harriet Winters McClintic Burside.
She was employed in the restaurant of JCPenney Co. Inc., Shenango Valley Mall, Hermitage, before moving in 1980 to Utah.
Ms. Evans worked for Unisys until 1990, then as a senior companion for Salt Lake County.
Surviving are: a daughter, Leslie Evans, Salt Lake; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in the Lawrence County area.

Former Whitmer-Smith exec served under Patton in WWII
Funeral will be Friday for Edwin E. Gray, 448 S. Fourth St., Sharpsville. He died 4:40 a.m. Tuesday (12-12-00) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 89.
Mr. Gray was born April 26, 1911, in Elmira, N.Y., to George A. and Alice M. Dibble Gray.
A 1929 alumnus of Elmira High School, from 1950-61 he was vice president and general manager of the former Whitmer-Smith's department store, Sharon. Mr. Gray later began a career with F.A. Empsall Co., Watertown, retiring in 1976 as vice president and general manager.
Following retirement, he worked for Barnett Bank, Sarasota, Fla., retiring in 1985 as purchasing coordinator.
An Army veteran, Mr. Gray served as a staff sergeant in the 13th Armor Division in Europe under Gen. George S. Patton during World War II.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Sharon; Free and Accepted Masons Watertown (N.Y.) Lodge 49; and was a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103, Sharon.
His wife, the former Helen E. Timberlake, whom he married Sept. 4, 1932, died March 17, 1988.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. John S. (Ann) Getway, Sharpsville; a sister, Norma Putney, Seneca Falls, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hubbard formerly was a member of First Baptist Church, Farrell; and of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Florence E. Kightlinger, 9 Penn Ave., Greenville, formerly of Meadville and Fort Meade, Fla., died at 12:10 p.m. Monday (12-11-00) in St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township. She was 82.
Mrs. Kightlinger was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Randolph, N.Y., to Herbert and Ruby Day Mather.
An alumna of Randolph Central High School, she earned a degree in nursing from Syracuse University and retired in 1977 after 10 years from Crawford County Home in Saegertown, Pa., where she was a nursing supervisor. Mrs. Kightlinger was previously a registered nurse at Meadville Medical Center.
She attended Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville; and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Meade.
Mrs. Kightlinger was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are: her husband, Milford L. Kightlinger, whom she married June 17, 1938; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Jan) Stratiff, Greenville; and Mrs. James (Linda) Shultz, Dallas; a brother, Carl Mather, Houston; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Mather.

BLAIRSVILLE, Pa. -- Lois Nadine Kok, Blairsville, died Tuesday (12-12-00) in Indiana Hospital. She was 82.
Mrs. Kok was born Aug. 25, 1918, in Sharon to Robert Lee and Maude Mills Limber.
The 1936 Sharon High School alumna earned a journalism degree in 1940 from Pennsylvania State University, State College, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
She was associate society editor of The Herald and also worked for the Bridgeville (Pa.) Signal and the Carnegie (Pa.) Signal Item newspapers.
After her children were reared, Mrs. Kok earned a second degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and worked as a substitute teacher in area schools.
She was an amateur oil painter and member of the local art associations.
Mrs. Kok also was active in March of Dimes since its inception, serving on the Indiana County board.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Blairsville, and was past president of the church's United Methodist Women.
Surviving are: her husband, Myron Kok, to whom she was married for 57 years; three sons, Robert, Providence, R.I.; Neil, Pittsburgh; and Eric, Palmyra, Pa.; a brother, Robert Limber, Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A brother, Joseph Limber; and a sister, Dorothy Bittle, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Murcko was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Pittsburgh to Robert and Catherine Giovaninni Campero.
She moved to Farrell in 1956 and was a 1961 alumna of Farrell High School.
Mrs. Murcko retired in September 1999 after 26 years from First National Bank of Pennsylvania's Hermitage branch, for which she was head teller and vault manager.
She previously worked at the former Sherwin-William's Hubbard plant and was secretary to the plant manager.
Mrs. Murcko was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage; and enjoyed reading and walking.
Surviving are: her husband, Reginald J. Murcko, whom she married May 1, 1965; a daughter, Mrs. Edward N. (Gina M.) Benson, Hermitage; and a brother, James A. Campero, St. Louis, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John R. Campero.

Mrs. Paden was born April 20, 1912, in Greenville to William Daisley.
An alumnus of the former Penn High School in Greenville, he retired in 1977 after more than 10 years as head of the bakery department at the former D'Alfonsos' Golden Dawn, Hempfield Township.
As an active member and volunteer at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, Mrs. Paden belonged to the church Women's Association and the Young-at-Heart group.
She enjoyed walking.
Her husband, William C. Paden, whom she married Aug. 15, 1938, died July 9, 1973.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. William (Suzanne) Casto, Bedford Heights, Ohio; a son, William L., Greenville; two grandsons; and three great-grandsons.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Benjamin David; two brothers, William and "Pug" Daisley; and four sisters, Viola, Ethel Marion and Jenny.

Mr. Pierce was a life member of National Fire Protection Association; and International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
He was a Navy veteran and belonged to Mount Olive Baptist Church, Masury.
Mr. Pierce was a lifelong resident of Masury.

Mrs. Pop was born June 2, 1919, in Sharpsville to Michael Paul and Emma Philips Beno.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Church, Sharpsville, where she was an active member of its Altar-Rosary Society.
Mrs. Pop enjoyed cooking, especially baking Easter and Christmas cookies, which for more than 28 years she shipped to extended family members during the holidays.
Her husband of 59 years, William George Pop Sr., whom she married Sept. 17, 1938, died Jan. 26, 1997.
Surviving are: a son, William George Jr., River Bluff Farms, Prospect, Ky.; two sisters, Sophie Beno Hutchins, Hermitage; and Mrs. Raymond (Ann Beno) English, Sharpsville; a granddaughter; and two grandsons.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Michael, Louis Michael and retired Col. William George Beno; two sisters, Helen Beno Tranick Babis and Mary Beno Toth; and four infant siblings.

VOORHEES, N.J. -- Richard Robins, Voorhees, died Dec. 2, 2000, in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden, N.J. He was 73.
Mr. Robins was born Oct. 30, 1927, in Youngstown to Don and Grace Robins.
He was president of his senior class at Hickory High School, Hermitage, from which he graduated.
Mr. Robins served in the Naval Reserve and earned bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
He served in the trust department of Central Penn Bank before joining Tradesmans Bank in Vineland, N.J., as a trust officer, vice president and director.
Mr. Robins also practiced law.
He was a lay reader in South Vineland (N.J.) Episcopal Church and at Echelon Towers Chapel in Voorhees.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Peggy Erickson of Sharon; two sons, David and Scott; a daughter, Cheryl; and four grandchildren.
A brother, David, preceded him in death.
