Retired Mercer elementary teacher lived in Florida
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Margaret C. Eller, 7935 Timberlake Drive, West Melbourne, formerly of Mercer, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (11-9-00) in Indian River Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Eller was born March 5, 1910, in Fairview, Pa., to Edward and Mabel Rogers Doolittle.
She retired after 33 years as a teacher for Mercer Elementary School, and belonged to Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association; and Mercer Teachers Education Association.
Mrs. Eller was a member of Wesley Methodist Church, West Melbourne, and previously belonged to Mercer United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Maurice Eller, whom she married in 1932, died in 1985.
Surviving are: two sons, James M., West Melbourne, with whom she lived; and David R., six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. A private cremation was held.

Raymond Johnson Sr.Former plant foreman was charter director of hospital
Funeral will be Thursday for Raymond Johnson Sr., 1788 Powers Ave., Sharpsville. He died at 5:25 p.m. Sunday (11-12-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 83.
Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Pulaski, Va., to Charles Henry and Mary Beth Moyer Johnson.
He retired in 1979 as a general foreman for the former Shenango Steel Inc., Sharpsville.
As a member of Second Baptist Church, Sharpsville, Mr. Johnson was a trustee; former Sunday school superintendent; and an ordained deacon and longtime chairman of the deacon board.
He was a former board member for Mercer County Area Agency on Aging Inc.; and Shenango Valley Urban League; and was a former president of Local 1032 United Steelworkers; and belonged to Sharpsville Service Club; and Mercer County Branch of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Mr. Johnson was a charter board member for what is now UPMC Horizon, Farrell.
He received various awards for Christian and community service from local churches and organizations including Mercer County Frontiers Club; his church, in 1983; and in 1995, from Pentecostal House of Prayer, Farrell.
In the 1950s, Mr. Johnson coached Little League baseball, Sharpsville.
He enjoyed driving his car.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Mattie Sue Mills, whom he married April 10, 1937, at home; three daughters, Elizabeth S. Lampkins, West Middlesex; Jacqueline L. Rose, Shaker Heights, Ohio; and Mary E. Williams, Whitehall, Pa.; two cousins, with whom he was reared, Ellen Beverly, Pulaski; and George Carter, Sharon; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn Diane; a son, Raymond Jr.; and three brothers, Tinsley, Henry James and Robert E. Johnson Sr.

Hermitage man was Shriner, Elk, Rotarian, traveler, bowler
Dr. Wendell E. Mook, 715 Richmond Drive, Hermitage, died at 12:37 p.m. Monday (11-13-00) in Clepper Manor, Sharon. He was 84.
Dr. Mook was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Kirksville, Mo., to Leonard C. and Hazel Dean Mook.
A 1937 alumnus of Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., he earned a bachelors degree, and later completed a masters degree in sociology in 1942 from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Dr. Mook graduated in 1947 from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He taught school at Lancaster Boys High School and at Honeybrook (Pa.) School.
Dr. Mook was a member of First Presbyterian Church; Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103; Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Lodge 668; and since 1951, of the Rotary Club, all Sharon.
He belonged to Zem Zem Temple of the Shrine, Erie; Mercer County Shrine Club; and was a 32nd degree Mason at Scottish Rites New Castle Consistory.
Dr. Mook enjoyed reading, bowling and traveling.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Alice Price, whom he married June 29, 1975; a daughter, Mary Ellen, Hermitage; a son, Dennis A., Newport News, Va.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cortney; and a sister, Ruth.

MONROEVILLE, Pa. -- Bette E. Peer, Monroeville, died Monday morning (11-13-00) in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 59.
Mrs. Peer was born Oct. 9, 1941, in Sharpsville to John and Beatrice Swartz Kincaid.
Her husband, Walter C. Peer, preceded her in death.
Surviving are: two sisters, Doris Snider, Hartford; and Elaine Davis, Sharon; and three brothers, Ralph Kincaid, Greenville; Charles Kincaid, Clark; and Ronald Kincaid, Taylorsville, N.C.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John and Eldred Kincaid.

Hempfield Township woman owned Reagle Hardware
Olga Polyack, 95 Williamson Road, Hempfield Township, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday (11-13-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, following a brief illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Polyack was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Bessemer, Pa., to Milan and Frances Puz Ferlan.
She was an alumna of Bessemer High School.
From 1944-54, with her husband, Michael T. Polyack, whom she married Nov. 9, 1940, Mrs. Polyack operated the General Grocery Store, Bessemer. From 1954-82, they owned and operated Reagle Hardware, Greenville. Her husband died Jan. 9, 1983.
Mrs. Polyack belonged to St. Michaels Church, Greenville.
She was an active member since 1960 of Greenville Business and Professional Womens Organization, and belonged to AARP Greenville/Lakeland Area Chapter 4054; Greenville Symphony; and Greenville Historical Society.
Mrs. Polyack was also active in several volunteer organizations including St. Paul Homes, West Salem Township.
She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, music and photography.
Surviving are: a son, Michael T. Jr., San Francisco; a sister, Elma Porter; and two brothers, Kenneth F. and James M. Ferlan, all of Bessemer.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Milan Ferlan Jr.

BATH, Ohio -- Eleanor J. Naylor Semmler, Bath, formerly of Woodland Drive, New Castle, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday (11-12-00) in Sunrise Assisted Living following an extended illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Semmler was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Alliance, Ohio, to Raymond and Zella Santee Naylor.
She attended Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio.
The former Methodist belonged to Order of the Eastern Star Lydia Chapter 83, Marion, Ohio.
A homemaker, Mrs. Semmler was a support and advocate for her husband, Ray E. Semmler, whom she married Jan 23. 1942. He was the former president of Penn Power Co., New Castle. He died Nov. 9, 1996.
Surviving is a daughter, Carol Ann Adams, wife of Newton Johnson, Fairlawn, Ohio.
