Rated 4 out of 5 by Lisa from Love it... but...there's a "but"... I LOVE the colors!!! I ordered "Scene Queen" and "Electric Slime". They remind me of 80's neon clothes you'd get from Express. I used to wear these colors all the time. :) They also remind me of Halloween, especially the orange cakes.The yarn is fairly soft and I could totally see it used for a scarf or hat. (it's not as soft as say, Colorama Halo though, but not as scratchy as Red Heart Super Saver). I plan on making a baby blanket or lapghan with the yarn. The "but" part of my review title is this: I feel like the label is misprinted. Why? Well, it's a 5.3 oz, 150g yarn, medium 4 weight and the crochet hook that is suggested is a 4.5mm. Huh? That has to be wrong. For reference, Mandala is a 5.3 oz, 150g yarn and that's a 3 weight with a suggested hook size of 5mm. This Rave yarn is a bulkier 4 and in some spots, the yarn isn't twisted too tightly and no way would a 4.5 mm hook work (I tried it and it didn't work). I used a 6mm and it worked well. Obviously you'd use a larger hook for more drape, but even with a 6mm, it was still pretty stiff and I was just using DC.Overall, I really like this yarn...I just question the label.

I use Clover hooks and have no issues with splitting as the others are mentioning. It is on the fuzzier side (almost like ROVING, which is where I’m assuming they came up with the RAVE name) so I’m a little apprehensive as to what washing will do. As far as working with it though, it’s a dream.

Rated 1 out of 5 by midd from Badly made, and SNAGGY odd yarn This is not a typical yarn. First off it is a million thin fibers that are twisted poorly around a white knit tube core. Because of the millions of thin fibers it snags and does best using a blunt big headed crochet hook, other wise it will not unravel well at all.Second issue is the twist, it is badly done and the yarn uneven in thickness. In some places there simply is NO twist and the fibers are running straight, in others they are twisted SO tightly and they used so few fibers that the yarn is almost thread size in thickness.In the second cake the instant I pulled it from the plastic bag it was totally obvious that was a huge defect, a giant plume of fiber was sticking out. How on earth did this pass any sort of inspection? As I crocheted into the cake, this giant plume revealed itself to be an area many feet long which alternated between thread thick yarn, normal yarn thickness, the white core cut, and plumes of untwisted extra fibers an inch thick in 3 areas. I very much do not like this yarn for look, for workability and I am SURE longevity. The thin fibers become dislodged easily. It is going to look awful fast.The only GOOD thing I can say is, the color change in Icy Blue happens gently.And yes it is soft feeling but with all the rest being totally wrong, it does not make it ok.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Em E from Wanted to love it, but... Pros: The colors are fantastic! I fell in love with them and was eager to try a cake or two. The price point isn't horrible and if you have a Joann's coupon, even better!Cons: While the yarn isn't billed as super soft, the slight "scratch" feel disappointed me a little. I decided to carry on and worked up some chains. Noticed immediately that it starts to split, but I figured it might be because it was at the end of the yarn. By my second row, I knew I didn't care for this yarn much. It does hold shape, so there's that. But the "frayed" look of the stitches bothered me and the "squeak" on the hook wasn't helping, either. This one isn't for me, unfortunately. :(
