Clara L. Diurba
Hickory High graduate worked at Sparkle Market

Funeral will be Thursday for Clara L. Diurba, 540 12th St., Pymatuning Township. She died unexpectedly at 12:04 p.m. Saturday (7-1-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System of natural causes. She was 57.

Mrs. Diurba was born April 14, 1943, in Sharon to Warren and Dorothy Mitchelltree Stull.

A lifelong area resident, she was an alumna of Hickory High School and worked at the delicatessen in Sparkle Market, Reynolds Plaza, Greenville. Mrs. Diurba was previously employed by Mercer County Crippled Children’s Society, Hermitage.

She enjoyed cooking.

Surviving are: a daughter, Lynnett Frazier, Sharon; two sons, Eric Warren Tymchyshyn, Frackville, Pa.; and Michael Tymchyshyn, Sharpsville; her mother, Hermitage; two brothers, Harold Stull, Greenville; and Warren Stull, Farrell; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; and an infant brother and sister, Frank and Elaine Stull, respectively.

Tillie M. Toth Liversage
Hermitage woman was volunteer, avid angler

Funeral will be Thursday for Tillie M. Toth Liversage, 3570 Mount Hickory Blvd., Hermitage, formerly of New Castle. She died at 8:42 a.m. Friday (6-30-00) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 82.

Mrs. Liversage was born May 22, 1918, in Gyor, Hungary, to Joseph and Anna Kovach Hajdu Sr.

She emigrated to the United States at the age of 12 and was educated in Hungary and America.

During her youth, Mrs. Liversage belonged to Junior Women’s Club, Sharon; and volunteered in the lobby shop of what is now Sharon Regional Health System.

As a member of St. Joseph’s Church, she was active in many charity events and instrumental in organizing funds raisers for St. Joseph’s School, both Sharon.

With her husband, Mrs. Liversage was an avid angler and enjoyed family fishing trips to Canada and fished the entire East Coast of the United States.

Her first husband, Michael Toth, is deceased.

Surviving are: her second husband, Albert G. Liversage, whom she married July 1965; a son, Robert M. Toth, Hubbard; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Nancy) Franus, Monrovia, Md.; two stepsons, Kenneth, Salem, Mass.; and Richard, Staten Island, N.Y.; and a grandson.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Martin, Paul and John Hajdu; and Joseph Hajdu Jr.; and two sisters, Ann Muranyi and Julie Pleso.

Dorothy H. McDermott
Boardman, Ohio, woman survived by family here

BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday for Dorothy H. McDermott, 2300 Canfield Road, Boardman, formerly of West Omar Street, Struthers, Ohio. She died at 2 p.m. Saturday (7-1-00) at home. She was 93.

Mrs. McDermott was born June 10, 1907, in Youngstown to Joseph and Catherine Walsh Mussler.

She was employed for eight years at the former Renner Brewery, Youngstown; and was a secretary for 25 years at St. Patrick’s Church, Youngstown.

Mrs. McDermott was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Struthers, and its Altar and Rosary Society; and Seniors Citizens group.

She also belonged to Catholic Daughters of the Americas; St. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary; AARP; and Struthers Senior Citizens.

Her husband, William T. McDermott, whom she married July 20, 1943, died Sept. 4, 1983.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Don (Peggy) Gresko, Austintown, Ohio; a brother, Stan Mussler, Youngstown; three granddaughters; and several cousins in Sharon.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Mussler; and two sisters, Mildred Mussler; and Marie Kahl, formerly of Sharon.

Sharon woman was member of Church of Sacred Heart

Caroline ‘Clara’ Marie Fornelli McLaughlin, 887 Cedar Ave., Sharon, died at 8 a.m. Sunday (6-2-00) at home. She was 86.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Sharpsville to Umberto "Frank" and Mae Nerone Fornelli.

She was a 1933 alumna of Sharpsville High School and a member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.

Her husband, James P. McLaughlin Sr., whom she married June 15, 1935, died April 20, 1976.

Surviving are: five daughters, Georgia Zimmerman, Karen Everhart and Kathy Phillips, all of Sharon; Colleen D’Ambrosia, Venice, Fla.; Patricia Perline, Hubbard; three sons, Jan and Cary, both of Sharon; and William Jr., Brookfield; six sisters, Anna Francella, Mesa, Ariz.; Alberrta Fornelli, Elizabeth Daost and Madeline "Jackie" Verrill, all of Sharon; Angie Verrill, Indianapolis; and Patricia Weld, Erie; a brother, Rocco "Rocky" Fornelli, Santa Barbara, Calif.; 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Verrill; a son, James P. Jr.; and four brothers, Anthony, Louis and Dominic Fornelli; and Ernie Verrill.

Retired housekeeper was 1946 Hubbard High graduate

Ruth L. Realty, Masury, formerly of 5896 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, Hubbard, died at 2:35 a.m. Sunday (7-2-00) in Orange Village Care Center, Masury, following an extended illness of cancer. She was 72.

Mrs. Realty was born May 6, 1928, in Youngstown to Adolf and Frieda Kepper Wahlenmaier.

A 1946 alumna of Hubbard High School, she retired in 1990 after 20 years in the housekeeping department of Southside Hospital, Youngstown, for which she earned the Outstanding Employee Award in 1986.

Mrs. Realty attended the former Emmanuel Baptist Church, Youngstown, and was a member of AARP; and Local 627 of Service Employees International Union, Youngstown.

Surviving are: two sons, Richard and Robert Realty; and a daughter, Irene Szanny, all of Hubbard; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Wahlenmaier.

Sharon Steel retiree was avid outdoorsman

Gerald B. Shaffer, 1175 Main St., Volant, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday (7-1-00) at home following a year-long illness. He was 72.

Mr. Shaffer was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Princeton, Pa., to Samuel E. and Mary Elizabeth Campbell Shaffer.

He retired in 1983 after 36 years from Sharon Steel Corp.’s former Farrell plant.

Mr. Shaffer was a member of First Baptist Church, Grove City.

An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of National Rifle Association and Shenango Beagle Club.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Naomi "Dolly" Clark, whom he married July 22, 1950; a daughter, Peggy Shaffer Jaros, Mars, Pa.; a son, Thomas G., Hulett, Wyo.; three brothers, Earl W. and David L., both of New Wilmington; and Donald, Mercer; two sisters, Wilma Belknap, New Castle; and Ruth Taylor, Greenville; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna; and two brothers, George and Dale.

Charlie H. Thompson
WWII vet was Thiel grad, Nationwide retiree, Mason

CABOT, Pa. -- Charlie H. Thompson, 148 Marwood Road, Concordia Haven, Cabot, formerly of Aspen Road, Butler, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (7-1-00) in Concordia Nursing Home. He was 87.

Mr. Thompson was born March 25, 1913, in Transfer to Samuel K. and Louise Hawthorne Thompson.

The alumnus of Thiel College in Greenville retired in 1978 after 44 years from Nationwide Insurance Co., where he was regional administration manager.

An Army veteran, Mr. Thompson served in the 88th Infantry Division in Italy during World War II.

As a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Butler, he was a trustee, deacon, elder and manager of Covenant Food Cupboard. He was also recipient of the 1979 Senior Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 272, Butler; Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory; Butler Caravan 14; Syria Temple and Shrine Luncheon Club; and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Butler.

He previously belonged to Butler County Symphony Association; American Red Cross; Butler Chamber of Commerce; Easter Seal Society; and Institute of Management Accountants.

Surviving are his wife, the former Muriel L. Taylor, whom he married June 15, 1940; and a sister, Elizabeth Javens, Hermitage.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
