Kathryn L. Bronder


St. Joseph’s Church member was teacher in area schools

Kathryn L. Bronder, formerly of Federal Drive, Sharon, died at 3:10 a.m. Sunday (11-5-00) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 97.

Mrs. Bronder was born Oct. 25, 1903, in West Salem Township to C. Joseph and Maude Billig Heilig.

The 1921 Sharpsville High School alumna graduated in 1928 from what is now Edinboro University of Pennsyllvania with a teacher’s certificate.

She taught in Sharpsville Area School District; St. Joseph’s School, Sharon; and in rural school houses throughout Mercer County.

Mrs. Bronder was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon, where she taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes.

She was a member for more than 50 years of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Sharon Council 507; and of Sharon Regional Health System Auxiliary. Mrs. Bronder also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of John XXIII, Hermitage.

Her husband, Albert M. Bronder, whom she married Sept. 3, 1932, died Nov. 20, 1971.

Surviving are: two sons, Joseph B., New Market, Md.; and Albert M., Thornton, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Robert and Charles Heilig; four sisters, Frances Heilig, Florence Boyle, Maybelle Casey; and Grace Franicorn; and a granddaughter, Margo Bronder.

Charles N. Brown

Charles N. Brown, 135 Garden Ave., Grove City, was survived by a sister, Louise Black, Hermitage. The Herald omitted her last name.

Mary B. Coppolella
Grove City homemaker was member of Beloved Disciple

Mary B. Coppolella of Orchard Manor, Pine Township, formerly of Oakland Avenue, Grove City, died at 9:35 p.m. Saturday (11-4-00) in the nursing home. She was 97.

Mrs. Coppolella was born Oct. 26, 1903, in Grove City to William and Rose Vergolini Ziccardi.

The longtime Grove City resident was a homemaker and owned and operated a small business in Stoneboro for 13 years.She belonged to Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, where she was a member of its Rosary Altar Society.

Mrs. Coppolella was the president of the Sons of Italy Lodge, Grove City, for 10 years.

Her husband, Anthony, died in July 1950.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Eleanor) Leone; Dorothy Trinch; and a son, Eugene Coppolella, all Grove City; nine grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen D’Arcangelo, and Carrie Ziccardi; three brothers, John, James and Tony Ziccardi; and a grandson, Gregory Coppolella.

Mrs. Anthony (Mary B.), 97, of Orchard Manor, Pine Township, formerly of Oakland Avenue, Grove City.

Taylor Wayne and Tyler William Heister
Tyler William Heister, infant son of John W. and Charlene M. Anderson Heister, 441 A, S. Shenango St., Mercer, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday (11-3-00) shortly after birth in the Women’s Center of Sharon Regional Health System. His twin brother, Taylor Wayne, was stillborn at 3:45 p.m. Friday (11-3-00) in the Women’s Center.

Surviving besides their parents are: maternal grandparents, William and Karen Root, Pulaski; and paternal grandmother, Lois J. Heister, Stoneboro.

HEISTER
Taylor Wayne and Tyler William, infant twin sons of John W. and Charlene M. Anderson Heister, 441 A, S. Shenango St., Mercer.

John H. Jones
Lordstown worker had sister living in Hermitage

LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- John H. Jones, 1150 Saltsprings Road, Lords-town, died of cancer at 5:10 p.m. Saturday (11-4-00) in his home. He was 60.

Mr. Jones was born Aug. 25, 1940, in Sharon to James and Elizabeth Lewis Jones.

He worked 22 years in the body shop of General Motors Corp.’s Lordstown car assembly plant.

The avid hunter and fisherman enjoyed family outings and garage sales.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Darlene Garrett, whom he married Nov. 18, 1959; three daughters, Darlene Stamos, Campbell, Ohio; Carol Huff, Leavittsburg, Ohio; and Diane Jones, Columbus, Ohio; two sons, John C., Wolcott, Conn.; and Raymond, Leavittsburg; three sisters, Dorothy Popa, Howland, Ohio; Maxine Hawks, Hermitage; and Edna Aurand, Franklin; a brother, David, Franklin; and 10 grandchildren.

A sister, Margaret "Peggy" Melius; and two brothers, Charles and Thomas, preceded him in death.

Syncere Elise Louise Matthews, 272 Cedar Ave., Sharon, died Saturday (11-4-00) in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, of complications from birth. She was 6 days old.

Syncere was born Oct. 29, 2000, in Youngstown to Sloane U. Matthews and Shauna Lynn Vukovich, Sharon.

Surviving besides her parents are: grandparents, Christine Vukovich, Gary Vukovich, and Thomas Allen Matthews, all Farrell; and Helena Smith, Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Van-Tayja L. Rankin, Sharon; and Chynna L. Matthews, Farrell; and three brothers; Brandon S. Matthews, Oakland; Jabree Matthews, Farrell; and Sloan U. Matthews Jr., Warren, Ohio.

Marion E. Smock
Retired Ariz. security guard had sons living in county

Marion E. Smock, formerly of 838 E. Seldon Lane, Phoenix, died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday (11-5-00) in White-Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. He was 96.

Mr. Smock was born July 23, 1904, in Belle Vernon, Pa., to Jake and Jenny Smock.

He attended Belle Vernon schools.

Mr. Smock retired after 25 years as a security guard with Road Runner Truck Stop in Phoenix.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries and Old Timer’s Club, all Phoenix.

Mr. Smock enjoyed hunting.

His wife, the former Anna F. DeLuca, died Feb. 4, 1999.

Surviving are: two daughters, Hazel Hunter, Leechburg, Pa.; and Mrs. Douglas (Shirley) Boring, Franklin; two sons, William E., Greenville; and Robert L., Clarks Mills; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Kurth, Toledo; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruth Burnheimer and Bonnie Klingensmith; three brothers, Robert, Dice and Jake; and a great-grandson, Ryan Smith.

William J. Steen
Reznor retiree, Moose officer was Bethany church member

William J. Steen of 472 E. Venango St., Mercer, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday (11-6-00) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 74.

Mr. Steen was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Greenville to Joseph and Pearl McIntire Steen.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines.

Mr. Steen retired from what is now Reznor, a unit of Thomas & Betts Corp., Mercer, in 1990 as a press operator.

He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer.

Mr. Steen was the past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1637, Mercer; and an avid sports fan.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Esther Kelso, at home; a daughter, Mrs. William C. (Judy) Forrester, Mercer; a sister, Mrs. James (Martha) Reed, Haines City, Fla.; a stepsister, Mrs. Roy (Shirley) Wedlake, Greenville; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph.

Ceramics teacher had son living in Slippery Rock

Doretta Julianna Winslow, New Castle Road, Worth Township, Butler County, died at 4:55 p.m. Friday (11-3-00) in Sunnyview Home, Butler, after an extended illness. She was 50.

Mrs. Winslow was born Oct. 28, 1950, in Queens, New York City, to Manuel and Doris Mildred Reichardt Martinez.

The member of International Association of Duncan Certified Ceramics Teachers was self-employed as a ceramist, having worked out of her home.

She was a member of Whitaker (Pa.) United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Winslow was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Rockville Center (N.Y.) Chapter 686; and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Westmoreland Shrine 18.

Her husband, James Anthony Winslow, whom she married Oct. 27, 1985, died Nov. 8, 1999.

Surviving are: two sons, Fredrick A. Sinkevich, Pawhuska, Okla.; and Vincent R. Sinkevich, Slippery Rock; her mother and stepfather, Donald Halstead, New Hyde Park, N.Y.; and two brothers, Edward M. Martinez, Farmingville, N.Y.; and Robert S. Martinez, Bellrose, N.Y.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father.
